Why a dedicated tool

Top load pleated bag filters have an integral core, so there is no support cage to grip during change-out. A purpose-built extraction tool gives maintenance crews a controlled way to lift a loaded element clear of the tubesheet, which reduces the risk of tearing media, dropping a dirty filter into the plenum, or releasing collected dust on the clean-air side.

General maintenance guidance

The following is general industry practice, not a manufacturer-issued procedure. Always follow the Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual for your specific collector.

1. Shut down the collector and apply your facility's approved lockout/tagout procedure to all electrical and compressed air sources.
2. Wear PPE appropriate to the collected material, including eye protection, gloves, and respiratory protection.
3. Open the filter access door and clear accumulated dust from the top of the elements before removal.
4. Engage the tool with the element as directed by your collector's IOM, confirm the grip is secure, then lift the element clear of the tubesheet. The tool is adjustable, so it is suggested that the tool be adjusted to fit into the filter approximately 3/4 of the way in to get the proper leverage.
5. Place the removed element directly into a disposal bag. Loaded filters are heavier than they look, so use safe lifting practice and a second person where needed.
6. Wipe the tubesheet and gasket sealing surfaces clean before installing new elements.
